Moose Come Back, Beat Knights 4-2
February 12, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release
The Manitoba Moose spotted the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights a two-goal lead and then roared back for a 4-2 win on Monday night at the MTS Centre. It was the first of two games between the teams this week.
The Knights grabbed the lead just 81 seconds into the game. Kris Chucko fed the puck back to the left point where defenseman Chris Lee fired home his first American Hockey League goal. It came in his seventh AHL game, his third with the Knights.
Chucko figured into the scoring later in the period. Off a face-off in the Knights zone, he intercepted an errant pass, raced down the right wing and fired shot past goalie Wade Flaherty for his tenth goal of the year. The Knights led 2-0 after one period.
Manitoba began its comeback halfway through the second period when Lee Goren beat Curtis McElhinney with a hard wrist shot. Up to that point, McElhinney had seen just five shots on goal.
The Moose tied the game at the last second of the period. Jesse Schultz banged in his own rebound at 19:59 of the stanza to send the two teams to the dressing room deadlocked at two.
The deciding goal came early in the third period. Off a turnover, Alexandre Bolduc walked down the slot and beat McElhinney with a soft backhander at 2:22. Jason Jaffray added a powerplay goal into an empty net in the last minute for the 4-2 score.
The Knights are now 30-17-3-1. They have won just two of their last seven games.
Three Stars: 1. Wade Flaherty (MAN) - 29 saves; 2. Lee Goren (MAN) - 1 goal; 3. Kris Chucko (OMA) - 1 goal, 1 assist
