February 12, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA - The American Hockey League announced today that Andrei Kostitsyn of the Hamilton Bulldogs has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 11th, 2007.
Kostitsyn, 22, registered eight points (5-3-8), a plus-1 rating and 13 penalty minutes in four games last week, helping the Bulldogs post a record of 3-0-1-0 and extend their point streak to a season-high 10 games.
The 6-foot, 202-pound winger scored a goal in the Bulldogs' 4-3 overtime loss to the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday night, and had two goals and an assist in Hamilton's 6-5 win in overtime against Chicago on Friday. He notched a goal and an assist in the Bulldogs' 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday night, before rounding out the week with a goal and an assist in Hamilton's 9-5 win over the Rochester Americans on Sunday afternoon.
In recognition of this achievement, Kostitsyn will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Bulldogs home game.
A native of Novopolotsk, Belarus, Kostitsyn is currently on a team-high nine-game point streak (Jan. 20 - Feb. 11) with 17 points (8-9-17) in that span. In 48 games with Hamilton this season, Kostitsyn has already established career-highs with 20 goals and 49 points, and is fourth in the AHL with a plus-23 rating. Drafted by Montreal in the 1st round, 10th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Kostitsyn has appeared in four NHL games with the Canadiens this season.
In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, February 16th at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Toronto Marlies at Copps Coliseum. Tickets for all 'Dogs home games (except home game #32) are available at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, any Ticketmaster outlet, online at www.ticketmaster.ca, or through charge-by-phone at 905-527-7666.
