Amerks prepare for another busy weekend

February 12, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans (34-16-1-0, 69 pts.) will be kept busy once again this week, as they are scheduled to play three games in three nights for the second consecutive weekend. The Amerks currently sit atop the North Division, three points better than the Hamilton Bulldogs (31-18-2-2, 66 pts.).

This Friday, February 16th, the Amerks will take on the Manchester Monarchs at The Blue Cross Arena in their second and final meeting of the season. Fans can pick up $5.00 ticket vouchers for the game at all Rochester Tim Horton's locations. Manchester is currently one of the hottest teams in the American Hockey League, as they have won their last 12 contests and are 25-4-1 since December 3rd. Their dozen straight victories are the most by any AHL team in two seasons. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks. The game will also be televised live on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26.

The Amerks head for Syracuse on Saturday, February 17th for a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Syracuse Crunch at the War Memorial at Oncenter. The Amerks' power-play has been their Achilles' heel against the Crunch this season, as they have only managed to convert three times on 42 opportunities (7.1%). The Crunch, however, are 12 for 32 with the man advantage (37.5%) against Rochester. The Amerks are 3-3 against the Crunch this season. The game will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.

Rochester returns home on Sunday, February 18th to face the Manitoba Moose on Zweigle's Family Four-Pack Night at The Blue Cross Arena. Fans can purchase four tickets to the game, four hotdogs and four regular drinks for $60.00 by contacting The Blue Cross Arena Box Office at (585) 454-5335. The 6:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks. The game will also be televised tape delayed on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26.

Last week, the Amerks struggled, as they lost three of four contests including a 9-5 defeat at the hands of the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday evening at Copps Coliseum. The Amerks gave up seven second-period goals as the Bulldogs moved within three points of the North Division leading Amerks. Amerks right winger Michael Ryan registered a natural hat trick, but the Amerks fell to 2-4 against the Bulldogs this season.

On February 7th, the Amerks gave up three unanswered goals in the final period en route to a 4-2 loss to the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The loss was the Amerks' first in eight meetings with the B-Sens this season.

The Amerks began their weekend with a 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phantoms on February 9th, before rebounding with a 3-1 win over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on February 10th. Clarke MacArthur tallied a goal in the victory to extend his home point-scoring streak to 16 games, while Craig Anderson made 37 saves between the pipes to improve to 19-9 on the season.
