Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Goals by Zenon Konopka and Justin Keller allowed the Admirals to erase a 2-0 deficit in the third period. However, the Lake Erie Monsters (17-21-1-5) slipped past the Norfolk Admirals (16-22-2-4) 3-2 Friday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
Lake Erie took a 2-0 lead out of the first intermission. Just 4:36 into the game, Nathan Smith won a faceoff at the left dot back to Darcy Campbell at the point. Campbell's shot deflected up off an Admirals stick in the slot and got past Norfolk netminder Karri Ramo.
The Monsters doubled their lead less than three minutes later. T. J. Galiardi sent a shot from the right half wall that bounced off Ramo's leg into the slot. Kyle Cumisky found the rebound near the left hashmarks and sent a quick shot into the net at 7:01.
The Admirals cut their deficit in half in the second minute of the second period. Steve Downie centered a pass from behind the net into the low slot. Zenon Konopka received the pass and sent it past Monsters backstop Tyler Weiman at 1:26.
Norfolk tied the game 9:53 into the final frame. Justin Keller scored his sixth goal of the season with a wrist shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that beat Weiman high, stick-side.
However, the Monsters struck back less than five minutes later just as a Lake Erie power play expired. Philippe Dupuis sent a shot from the slot through traffic that bounced off skates just before the goalmouth. Nigel Williams found the rebound in the right circle and backhanded a shot just past the outstretched left leg of Ramo at 14:11.
Despite throwing a barrage of shots thrown at Weiman through the remainder of the period, the Admirals could not find the equalizer.
Karri Ramo (34 shots, 31 saves) suffered the loss. Tyler Weiman (44 shots, 42 saves) earned the win.
Norfolk was 0-3 on the power play. Lake Erie was 0-2.
The Admirals' nine-game homestand will conclude next week with a pair of contests against the Albany River Rats. The puck drops on Thursday and Friday at Scope at 7:15 p.m.
