Manitoba Moose News Release

Physical play, penalties, and give-and-take goals characterized the seventh matchup between the Manitoba Moose and Rochester Americans on Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena. It took five minutes of overtime and a shootout for the winner to be decided, but the Moose managed to earn their fifth win over the Americans, winning 3-2 in a shootout.

It only took 55 seconds for a fight to break out between Jason Jaffray and Kenndal McArdle, resulting in early five-minute fighting majors for each guilty party.

The Americans benefited from the first powerplay of the game when Zack FitzGerald was penalized for cross-checking at 8:16. Moose goaltender, Curtis Sanford's acrobatic saves along with sharp penalty killing ensured that the home team wouldn't capitalize on their first man-advantage.

At 11:42, the Amerks broke their goose-egg and claimed the lead when Randall Gelech went top-shelf on Sanford to earn his first goal of his season and the first goal of the night.

The Moose responded six minutes later when Alexandre Bolduc broke through the Amerks defense and flew past them on a breakaway to knot the game at one heading into the second period.

The middle frame saw early scoring action from the Moose when an initial pass from Jason Jaffray was completed by Jason Krog to put the visitors on top, 2-1.

Consecutive penalties to Rochester gave Manitoba four minutes of powerplay time, but even with an additional man the Moose couldn't hit the back of the net to extend their lead any further.

At 7:52 Michael Duco was called out for charging which triggered a scrap between rough-and-tumble players Tommy Maxwell and Luke Beaverson. After each player landed a few solid punches, each attacker was handed a five-minute fighting major, putting Manitoba back on the powerplay.

With the extra man, Rochester broke through Manitoba's blueline and a tripping call gave the home team a penalty shot at 8:36. David Brine broke Sanford and tied the game up at two.

Neither the Americans nor the Moose were able to reclaim the lead and the club's were forced into overtime to decide the winner.
