Albany Devils News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Lowell Devils kept an unblemished record against the Hartford Wolf Pack this season by virtue of a 3-2 victory on Friday night at the XL Center. The Devils are now 3-0-0-0 versus the Wolf Pack in 2008-09, including two wins in Hartford.
Trailing by one, Hartford did not capitalize on a two-man advantage in the third period, but were able to do so on their ensuing 5-on-4. Jeff Frazee turned aside Mike Ouellette's shot in close, but could not get a piece of Tommy Pyatt's second chance opportunity that made the score, 2-2, at 12:03.
Barry Tallackon allowed the Devils to regain their lead less than three minutes later with his sixth of the year. Alexander Vasyunov's pull-up shot from the left circle bounced up off the chest of goalie Matt Zaba and was swatted in by Tallackon as he cut toward the crease.
Michael Sauer put Hartford up 1-0 at 13:45 of the first period as he took a faceoff win and blasted a shot from the far point the bounced off a body in front and across the goal line.
Exactly a minute later, the Devils tied the score when Ryan Murphy intercepted a pass behind the Wolf Pack net and quickly stuffed a shot inside the right post.
Lowell would find itself on top until 3:02 of the third period. Stephen Gionta gathered the puck down low in the Hartford zone and passed it to the blueline for Mark Fraser. The Devils defenseman snuck a wrist shot through the legs of a screen by Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and the five-hole of Zaba.
Frazee made 28 saves on 30 shots for his 16th win of the season. Lowell was 0-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.
Lowell is back home on Saturday, January 24 to battle the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Listen to game live at 980AM-WCAP or online at ahllive.com.
