SPRINGFIELD, MASS - The American Hockey League today announced that Norfolk Admirals right wing Brandon Segal (pronounced SEE-guhl) has been named to the Canadian AHL All-Stars Squad for the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic, Presented by Charter Communications. The All-Star Classic takes place this Sunday and Monday in Worcester, Mass.
Segal, 25, is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound right wing out of North Delta, British Columbia. The sixth-year-pro has 12 goals and 15 assists with 54 penalty minutes in 34 games with Norfolk this season. He ranks among the club leaders in goals, assists and points. He also serves as an alternate captain for the Admirals.
Segal has played 369 games in his American Hockey League career, scoring 80 goals and 72 assists with 432 penalty minutes between Milwaukee, Portland and Norfolk. He also has played in 41 career Calder Cup Playoff games with five goals and eight points. Norfolk's AHL parent club, the Tampa Bay Lightning, acquired Segal on February 26, 2008, along with a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Jay Leach. He was originally drafted by the Nashville Predators in the fourth-round, 102nd overall, of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Segal played 242 career games in the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen. He scored 108 goals and recorded 198 points with 358 penalty minutes.
