Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Chicago Wolves 3-2 on Friday night in front of 5,432 fans at Copps Coliseum. Ryan O'Byrne recorded his first goal of the season in what turned out to be the game winner.
While on the power play, Hamilton opened the game's scoring at 7:32. Yannick Weber blasted a shot that missed the net but bounced off the backboards and onto the stick of David Desharnais. Desharnais lost control of the puck before Mike Glumac banged the loose puck past Chicago starting goaltender Robert Gherson and into the back of the net for his team leading 19th goal. Steve Gainey gave the âDogs a 2-0 lead with a shorthanded marker at 8:38. Yanick Lehoux raced in on a breakaway but was unable to get a shot off. Gherson went to poke-check the puck away from the net but missed and Gainey fired the loose puck past the netminder for the goal.
Chicago cut the lead to one while on the power play at 18:46 of the middle frame. Jeff Hamilton intercepted a clearing attempt by a Bulldogs defender before firing a shot past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.
Hamilton added an insurance marker at 15:06 of the final frame. Kyle Chipchura sent the puck to O'Byrne, who was stationed at the point. O'Byrne blasted a shot that sailed through traffic and past the blocker of Gherson to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead.
Steve Martins added a late goal for the Wolves at 17:24. Martins skated in on Desjardins before snapping a shot over the glove of the goaltender to pull the Wolves to within one but they were unable to score with the extra man and the Bulldogs held on for a 3-2 win.
