While on the power play, Hamilton opened the game's scoring at 7:32. Yannick Weber blasted a shot that missed the net but bounced off the backboards and onto the stick of David Desharnais. Steve Gainey gave the ‘Dogs a 2-0 lead with a shorthanded marker at 8:38. Yanick Lehoux raced in on a breakaway but was unable to get a shot off. Gherson went to poke-check the puck away from the net but missed and Gainey fired the loose puck past the netminder for the goal.

Chicago cut the lead to one while on the power play at 18:46 of the middle frame. Jeff Hamilton intercepted a clearing attempt by a Bulldogs defender before firing a shot past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

Hamilton added an insurance marker at 15:06 of the final frame. Kyle Chipchura sent the puck to O'Byrne, who was stationed at the point. O'Byrne blasted a shot that sailed through traffic and past the blocker of Gherson to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead.
