April 13, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, defeated the Manitoba Moose in front of 13,395 fans on Friday at The Q by a final score of 3-1. With the win, the Monsters improved to 25-40-7-3 overall this season and with a .400 points percentage, remain alone in seventh place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
The Moose claimed a 1-0 lead on Friday when Mike Sgarbossa netted an even-strength goal at 6:34 of the opening period, the opening frame's lone tally. Cleveland's Miles Koules leveled the score at one, however, with a power-play strike at 4:44 of the second period thanks to assists from Justin Scott and Cameron Gaunce.
In the third, Koules struck again at 7:33 with an unassisted even-strength goal to give Cleveland their first lead before Calvin Thurkauf blasted a Jordan Schroeder five-on-five feed into the Moose net at 17:20 to cap the scoring in a 3-1 Monsters victory in front of the team's 17th home crowd of at least 10,000 fans this season.
Cleveland net-minder Matiss Kivlenieks improved to 14-20-4 this season by virtue of a 25-save performance while Manitoba's Eric Comrie fell to 17-13-3 between the pipes following a 19-save showing on Friday night.
