Syracuse Crunch News Release

UTICA, N.Y. - Carter Verhaeghe scored the game-winner late in the overtime frame to help the Syracuse Crunch top the Utica Comets, 2-1, and hit the 100-point mark for the third time in franchise history tonight at the Adirondack Bank Center.

Daniel Walcott opened scoring in the second period before the Comets knotted the game late in the middle stanza. With the overtime win, the Crunch move to 46-21-3-5 on the season and take the 12-game season series against the Comets, 7-5-0-0.

Eddie Pasquale recorded the win between the pipes for the Crunch, turning aside 27-of-28, while Thatcher Demko stopped 20-of-22 in net for the Comets. Syracuse was unable to convert on two power-play opportunities, but were successful on all six penalty kills.

After a scoreless first period, the Crunch were first on the board 3:29 into the middle stanza when Walcott sniped one top shelf from the slot. Assists went to Jonne Tammela and Verhaeghe.

The Comets tied the game on the breakaway with 25 seconds remaining in the second period to eventually force overtime. Michael Carcone stole the puck at the blue line and sped into the zone. He waited for Pasquale to go down as he cut in front of the crease and backhanded a shot in last minute from a sharp angle.

With 39 seconds remaining in the five-minute overtime frame, Verhaeghe sped down the left wing and beat Demko from the bottom of the circle. Alexander Volkov recorded the helper on the game-winner.

The Crunch return home for the regular season finale against the Rochester Americans tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Single game tickets and packages are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Crunch office located inside the War Memorial Arena at 800 S.
