LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

Hartford (10/12): The Manchester Monarchs topped the Hartford Wolf Pack 5-4 in a shootout victory at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night for their first win of the season. Young Guns left wing Matt Moulson and right wing Teddy Purcell both tallied two goals. Purcell added two assists for a total of four points, his first points of his professional career. Both Moulson and Purcell tallied in the shootout for Manchester, as well as right wing Vladimir Dravecky. Hartford collected goals from right wing Greg Moore (2) and center Artem Anisimov (2). Monarchs goaltender Dan Cloutier earned his first win in a Manchester uniform stopping 24 shots. Wolf Pack goaltender Miika Wiikman started the game and made seven saves on 10 shots before being replaced by netminder Al Montoya at the beginning of the second period. Montoya took the shootout loss with 19 saves. Manchester went 3-for-7 on the power play. Hartford was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Springfield (10/13): Center Gabe Gauthier scored just over one minute after the Springfield Falcons tallied the tying goal late in the third period to catapult the Manchester Monarchs to a 4-3 victory at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Center David Meckler, left wing Matt Moulson and center Trevor Lewis all added to the scoresheet for the Monarchs. Springfield collected goals from left wing Liam Reddox and center Patrick Thoresen (2). Monarchs goaltender Erik Ersberg earned his first victory of his professional career by stopping 23-of-26 shots. Netminder Jeff Deslauriers took the loss for the Falcons with 15 saves in a period and a half of play after he replaced goaltender Devan Dubnyk in the second period. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Monarchs (2-1-1-0) are in second place in the Atlantic Division with five points.

The Monarchs power play is ranked fifth in the AHL and the penalty kill is in 20th place.

Center Gabe Gauthier leads the Monarchs in scoring with seven points (2-5=7) in four games.

Gauthier is on a four-game point streak as he has tallied at least one point in every game this season.

The second-year center has also registered five assists in his last three games.

Gauthier's seven points are tied for third place in overall scoring in the AHL.

Left wing Matt Moulson, Monarchs 2006-07 leading scorer, collected two goals and one assist in the Monarchs 5-4 shootout win on Friday against Hartford. Moulson is ranked second on the Monarchs with six points (3-3=6) in four games.

Moulson is on a two-game goal-scoring streak with three tallies, a three-game assist streak with three assists and a three-game point streak with six points (3-3=6).

Young Gun right wing Teddy Purcell scored his first two goals of his professional career along with two assists for a total of four points in the Monarchs 5-4 shootout win on Friday night against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Purcell is tied for second place on the Monarchs roster with six points (2-4=6) in four games.

Purcell has scored five of his six points in the last two games.

The right wing is ranked third among rookies in the AHL with his six points.

Moulson and Purcell are tied for seventh place in the AHL with six points each.

Defenseman Peter Harrold leads Monarchs blueliners with five assists in four games.

Harrrold has four assists in the last two games.

The second-year defenseman is tied for second in the AHL among defensemen with his five points. His five assists are tied for first among AHL defensemen in the assist category.

Gauthier and Harrold's five assists are tied for first place in the AHL's assist category.

Right wing Kevin Westgarth is ranked third in the AHL and first on the Monarchs squad with 27 penalty minutes in four games.

Monarchs Young Gun center David Meckler scored his first professional goal on his first pro shot on Sunday, October 7 against the Springfield Falcons. Meckler is the fourth player in Monarchs history to accomplish this feat. Center Matt Ryan scored his first goal on his first shot on October 15, 2004, left wing Noah Clarke scored his first goal on his first shot on April 4, 2003, and center Yanick Lehoux scored his on October 11, 2002.

Monarchs defenseman Brendan Buckley has been assigned by the Los Angeles Kings to the Iserlohn Roosters of the German Elite League (DEL). Buckley, 30, served as captain of the Monarchs during the 2006-07 season and recorded nine points (2-7=9) and 107 penalty minutes in 63 games. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Needham, Massachusetts, registered three assists and 13 penalty minutes in the Monarchs 2007 Calder Cup playoff run that won them the Atlantic Division Championship. Buckley has collected 84 points (14-70=84) and 723 penalty minutes in 501 career AHL games with the Monarchs, Peoria Rivermen, Worcester IceCats, Syracuse Crunch, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks from 1999-2007. Buckley joins former Monarchs defenseman Chris Schmidt on the blueline for Iserlohn.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

10/12/07: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) reassigned defenseman Brendan Buckley from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL) to the Iserlohn Roosters (DEL).
