Phantoms To Honor 40th Anniversary Of First Flyers Game at Spectrum
October 15, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms will mark the 40th anniversary of the first-ever Philadelphia Flyers game at the Wachovia Spectrum when they host the Providence Bruins on Saturday, October 20 at 7:05 pm. As part of the festivities, the Phantoms will don replicas of the jerseys the Flyers wore in their inaugural season of 1967-68. These jerseys will be sold at an auction immediately following the game in Bullies Sports Bar at the Wachovia Spectrum.
This special night commemorates the first-ever Flyers game played at the Spectrum on October 19, 1967, against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a game the Flyers won, 1-0.
"While the Flyers celebrated their 40th anniversary last year, we wanted to honor the anniversary of their very first game since we play in the building where it all started," said Phantoms COO Frank Miceli. "We're very pleased to have an opportunity to mark this significant moment in the already storied history of the Spectrum."
The first 7,000 fans to attend this special game will receive a commemorative team photo of the 1967-68 Flyers team courtesy of Dietz & Watson. In addition, four members of the Flyers organization who were on hand for that first game - goaltender Bernie Parent, defenseman Joe Watson, right wing Gary Dornhoefer, and team publicist Joe Kadlec - will be greeting fans on the concourse prior to the game, signing autographs and sharing stories about the first game. Also, the Phantoms will be offering a free ticket to any fan that brings a ticket stub from any game during the 1967-68 Flyers season.
In the days leading up to the game, Phantomshockey.com will feature a series of photos of the first game and the events leading up to it. While fans are on the site, they can also order tickets to the game via ComcastTIX. Tickets are also available at the Wachovia Complex box office or by phone at 1-800-298-4200.
Phantoms season tickets and game plans are still available for the 2007-08 season. Fans can secure the same great seat at a discount for 6, 10, 20 or prorated season tickets for all remaining Phantoms home games this season while receiving an impressive list of exclusive benefits. Packages start as low as $60!
For more information or to make a deposit, call the Phantoms at 215-465-4522 during normal business hours.
