IceHogs pick up first AHL win

In another week in which the Rockford IceHogs only played one game, the results were much different than the previous week. The IceHogs picked up its first ever American Hockey League win during Week 2 of the regular season and now face a week that features four games in five nights.

Saturday, Oct. 6: Rockford IceHogs 7 at Iowa Stars 3

Transactions

-Niklas Hjalmarsson (D) was assigned to Rockford from Chicago (NHL) on Wednesday, Oct. 10

Bacon Bits:

Rockford notched its first ever AHL win on 10/13 at Iowa, topping the Stars 7-3.

Hogs Head Coach Mike Haviland coached his 450 career professional game on Saturday.

Rookie winger Evan Brophey scored his first career professional goal on 10/13 at Iowa.

Brophey also added two assists for his first career multi-point game (1g-2a).

Defenseman Prestin Ryan recorded a "Gordie Howe Hat trick" at Iowa, notching a goal, assist and a fighting major.

Wade Flaherty backstopped the IceHogs to their first ever AHL win on 10/13 making 34 saves.

The win was Flaherty's 10th in a row dating back to last season when he played for the Manitoba Moose.

After playing just two games in eight days to start the season, Rockford will play four games in five days beginning Tuesday in San Antonio.

Hot Hog Week 2:

Offense was a lot more plentiful during the Hogs second regular season contest and the combination of Petri Kontiola, Jack Skille and Evan Brophey all chipped in a goal and two assists in helping the IceHogs to a 7-3 win over the Iowa Stars.

Upcoming Games:

Tuesday, Oct. 16 at San Antonio, 7:05 p.m. Rockford first ever game in Texas against the Rampage. The Hogs begin a busy week in the Lone star state against a West Division rival.

Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Houston, 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs make the short trip down I-10 to Houston to take on the Aeros in yet another West Division showdown. The Hogs and Aeros will meet a total of six times this season, including three in Houston.

Friday, Oct. 19 at Chicago, 7:30 p.m. A rivalry is born when the IceHogs and Wolves meet for the first time ever. Just an hour a part, this is IceHogs fans best chance to catch their team before the home opener on Nov. 2.

Saturday, Oct. 20 at Grand Rapids, 6 p.m. The IceHogs complete a busy week in Grand Rapids as the Griffins host its season home opener. The game marks the first for the IceHogs outside of the West Division.

No Bud Light Hog Talk Tonight At Cousin's Bar and Grill:

Bud Light Hog Talk will not take place tonight due to the team playing in San Antonio. The show, however, will resume next Monday, Oct. 22 at Cousin's Bar and Grill. Join Jim Stone and Double T at Cousin's along with Hogs Head Coach Mike Haviland and IceHogs players as they talk IceHogs hockey.
