Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Similar to the way the Rockford IceHogs stole a victory in a shootout over the Milwaukee Admirals in their previous meeting on Nov. 3, the Admirals returned the favor on the IceHogs and battled their way back to steal two points away on the road from Rockford.

With under two minutes to go in regulation, Milwaukee forward Jamie Lundmark, while falling to the ice, backhanded a rebound sitting in front of Hannu Toivonen in at 18:39, tying the score at 3-3. Blake Geoffrion and Roman Josi picked each picked up their second assist of the night on the goal.

In the overtime frame the IceHogs would find themselves with two opportunities to end it by way of two separate delay-of-game penalties against the Admirals. But they would squander prime scoring opportunities and the game would move to a shootout.

In the shootout Mathis Olimb and Jeff Taffe tallied for the IceHogs, but Milwaukee's Linus Klasen, Geoffrion and Josi found the back of the net to steal the game in the seventh round of the extra session.

The IceHogs got the scoring started on Friday on the power play when Taffe sent a cross-ice pass for Kyle Beach who slapped in his fifth goal of the season to put the IceHogs up 1-0 at 1:58. Brian Connelly added to his team-leading 14th assist on the play.

Midway through the period while Milwaukee's forwards were on a change, Igor Makarov put on a hard forecheck that turned the puck over in the Milwaukee zone. Following behind the play, Kyle Hagel moved a sharp pass over to the stick of a streaking Rob Klinkhammer, Klinkhammer's shot put Chet Pickard on his back and Makarov skated in to push a snap shot past a crowd of Admirals at 11:06, making it 2-0 IceHogs.

Shortly into the second period Ryan Thang controlled possession behind the IceHogs goal line to Chris Mueller. Mueller moved the puck onto Linus Klasen's stick and with Toivonen pads covering the near post, he placed the puck up high on the right side of net at 2:44, cutting the IceHogs lead 2-1.

Then the Admirals found themselves on three consecutive power plays to open the third period and converted on their final chance. Josi moved the puck to Geoffrion, and he fired a shot that was blocked away by Toivonen, but Jonathon Blum flipped it in at 5:44, to tie the game at 2-2.

Milwaukee's score to tie the game wouldn't hold very long. While nearing the slot Mathis Olimb faked a shot that pulled Pickard forward out of his crease and Olimb switched back to his backhand and angled around Pickard to slide in his second goal of the season at 3:14, giving the IceHogs a 3-2 lead. Brandon Pirri and Ryan Stanton picked up assists on the play.

Toivonen turned away 25 shots and was saddled with the loss and Pickard picked up the win stopping 29 pucks.

The IceHogs went 1-for-7 on the man advantage and held the Admirals to 1-for-5 on the power play.
