Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (December 10, 2010) - Erick Gustafsson recorded five points (1g, 4a), Michael Ryan and Denis Hamel had three points each (1g, 2a) and Michael Leighton stopped 29 shots to lift the visiting Adirondack Phantoms to a 5-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch tonight at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena.

The win was Adirondack's fourth of the season, first since November 12 and first regulation victory since October 15 against the Crunch. The Phantoms were 0-9-1-0 in their last 10 games before tonight.

Nicolas Deschamps snapped a 12-game goal draught and Josh Green racked up his fourth goal over his last six games for the Crunch in the losing effort.

Deschamps got the scoring started, racing in alone on Leighton after David Laliberte stole the puck in the neutral zone and quickly moved the puck to his linemate. Deschamps' first bid was padded down, but he corralled the rebound and stuffed it past Leighton to give the Crunch a 1-0 lead at the 2:04 mark of the second period.

Hamel tied the game just under three and a half minutes later on the first of Adirondack's three power play goals after he re-directed a shot from Gustafsson past J.P. Levasseur.

Adirondack took its first lead of the game just over two minutes after Hamel's goal when Dan Jancevski sent Mike Testwuide in all alone and he beat Levasseur with a backhand over the glove to make it 2-1.

Green knotted the score back up at 2-2 at the 16:04 mark when he let go a wrister that found its way through Leighton's pads. That did not last long, however, as Adirondack's Gustafsson scored on the power play with a blast off the post and in past Levasseur just 35 seconds later.

Ryan added his second of the year and Adirondack's third power play goal of the night, on a stuff-in goal right at the doorstep to make it 4-2 seven minutes into the third, and Eric Wellwood scored an empty-net goal with 1:22 left to give the Phantoms the 5-2 win.
