Howard Baldwin, Jr. Named President and COO of Whalers Sports & Entertainment

HARTFORD, December 10, 2010: Whalers Sports & Entertainment chairman Howard Baldwin announced today that Howard Baldwin, Jr. has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of WSE. Baldwin, Jr. has been a partner in WSE since its founding.

As President and COO, Baldwin, Jr. will be responsible for directing all of WSE's various ventures, which include the business operations of the American Hockey League's Connecticut Whale and the promotion and staging of Whalers Hockey Fest 2011, the historic outdoor hockey extravaganza coming up this February at Rentschler Field.

Baldwin, Jr. has over 25 years of experience in hockey, and various other businesses, including four years as Event Coordinator at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. He also spent the 1992-98 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, first serving as travel secretary and eventually managing the operations of the team's Southpointe skating facility.

Baldwin, Jr. has additional business experience managing a large-scale yacht marina operation in Galesville, MD, and has also spent many years as a respected equipment manager with a number of pro hockey teams, including the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL and the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League. He began his professional career with four years as Assistant Equipment Manager with the Hartford Whalers, from 1984-88.
