Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that for the second straight year, Falcons players will be delivering holiday gifts to pre-selected families at the Greater Springfield YMCA on Wednesday, December 15 starting at 2:00 pm.

Falcons players, along with their wives and girlfriends, helped purchase and wrap the gifts for this special delivery. The Falcons players will be leaving the MassMutual Center on a Peter Pan Bus starting at 1:45 pm to make the deliveries. Media members interested in attending this special event are invited to also ride on the bus to the YMCA.

This special holiday event is part of the YMCA's "Devoted Families - Enriching Lives Teen Parent Program," which began in 2006. There are currently 15 families enrolled in the teen parent program. The program accepts both male and female high school drop-out teens that are pregnant or parenting. The goal of the program is to assist teens in achieving their GED while at the same time, providing on-site child care services for their children. Teens also must attend life skills workshops and home visits where they are guided in child development and parenting classes, budgeting, job training, etc. Teen parents are encouraged to consider college once they have completed their GED, or to attend a career institute where they can acquire a skill that will provide a livable wage. They ultimate goal of the program is to break the cycle of poverty.
