Medina strong as Pigs beat Mets

(Syracuse, NY) - Adonis Medina (3-0) retired all 15 batters he faced on Friday night as he pitched five innings and recorded four strikeouts in Lehigh Valley's (10-6) 8-4 win over the Syracuse Mets (3-13).

The IronPigs scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Luke Williams hit an RBI single against Jesus Reyes (0-3) to score Travis Jankowski. Mickey Moniak clubbed a three-run home run off Reyes to extend the Pigs lead to 4-0. The home run was his second of the season.

Reyes was pulled for Marcel Renteria who made his triple-A debut. Edgar Cabral walked with the bases loaded to bring in Darick Hall to give Lehigh Valley a 5-0 lead. Jankowski reached on a fielder's choice with two outs to score Austin Listi and Cornelius Randolph for the sixth and seventh runs of the inning.

The Pigs scored a run against Arodys Vizcaino in the top of the eighth inning to take an 8-0 lead when Randolph scored on a throwing error by shortstop Drew Jackson.

Damon Jones took over in the bottom of the sixth inning and pitched two perfect innings. He recorded two strikeouts. Bryan Mitchell gave up the first hit of the game for the Mets in the bottom of the eighth inning when Quinn Brodey led off with a single.

The Mets were able to get two runs against Mitchell in the inning. Syracuse scored two more runs against Mitchell in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jeff Singer earned the save after closing out the bottom of the ninth inning. It was his first at the triple-A level.

The IronPigs and Mets will play at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday evening at NBT Bank Stadium.
