Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings have loaned defenseman Steve McCarthy to the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League, the team announced Friday.
McCarthy, 34, has appeared in 30 games with the Wings this season and has registered two goals and seven assists.
McCarthy spent last season in the American Hockey League with Springfield and Iowa. The 16-year pro has played 174 games in the AHL during his career, registering 85 points.
The Trail, BC native was taken with the 23rd pick of the first round in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He made his professional debut for Chicago on October 4, 1999 in a game against the San Jose Sharks. McCarthy played in 302 NHL games over eight seasons from 1999-2008 with Chicago, Vancouver, and Atlanta.

In separate transactions, goaltender Clay Witt has been reassigned to Kalamazoo from the Utica Comets and Dave DeSander has been released.
The Wings entertain the Brampton Beast for the second annual Kids Paint the Ice game, presented by Michigan Blood, on Friday. Over 200 participants came out to Wings Event Center and turned the ice surface into Kalamazoo's largest piece of artwork for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop against the Beast.
