THE MATCHUP
The South Carolina Stingrays open a four-game road trip this weekend in Adirondack. The Stingrays have won four of their last five games and are coming off a pair of a weekend split of a two game set with the Cincinnati. The Thunder, in their first year in the ECHL, bolted out to a fast start, and currently sit at in second place in the ECHL's East Division, one point behind division leading Manchester.
RAYS GREATS MEET IN BENCH BOSS BATTLE
The battle behind the benches this weekend features a pair of former Stingrays greats on and off the ice. Adirondack Head Coach Cail MacLean played three seasons with the Stingrays from 2005-2008, scoring 63 goals and 63 assists in 169 career games. He moved behind the bench as an Assistant Coach in 2008-2009, and served as the Head Coach from 2009-2011. South Carolina Head Coach Spencer Carbery played for MacLean from 2008-2010, and served as an assistant coach on MacLean's staff during the 2010-2011 season. Following MacLean's departure to the Abbotsford Heat, Carbery was named South Carolina's Head Coach.
POWERED UP POWER PLAY
South Carolina's power play has a goal in six straight games, dating back to the club's 4-1 loss to Florida on December 19. In that stretch, the Stingrays are 6-for-22 on the power play, converting at 27.3%.
PENALTY KILL PERFECTION
In a pair of games this past weekend, South Carolina went a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill. With a recent string of success, South Carolina's penalty kill is now denying 86.7% of opponents chances on the power play, good for fourth in the league.
