NORFOLK, Va. - Scott Allen scored the game-winning goal in the third period for the Norfolk Admirals and assisted on the final marker in a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones Friday night at Scope Arena.

The Cyclones scored first when Andrew Yogan rushed the puck up the left side and threw a wrister top shelf from the middle of the left circle at 3:41. This gave Cincinnati a 1-0 lead that held through the remainder of the first.

In the second period, Ben Betker shifted the puck to the right dot from behind the Cyclones' net to Steven Whitney, whose shot pass found Devin Mantha at the far post. Mantha gathered and shoveled an attempt over Cincinnati goalie Brandon Whitney into an open left side to tie things at 17:42 in the middle frame.

Norfolk took a 2-1 lead on a power-play opportunity at 9:12 in the third. Whitney's drive went wide of the cage and around the boards to Alexis Loiseau near the right point. Scott Allen screened Cincinnati's Whitney and Loiseau's shot from the top of the right circle hit off Allen for the one-goal edge.

At 18:21 in the final frame, Alexander Ranger scored an empty-netter with help from Allen to put away Cincinnati and finalize a 3-1 victory for Norfolk.

Nic Riopel blocked 23 of Cincinnati's 24 total shots on net in his first start at Scope, while B. Whitney managed to stop 28 of Norfolk's 30 attempts. The Admirals converted on one of their two man advantages, and Cincinnati went scoreless on four power plays.

The Admirals will be back at Scope Saturday night to face Cincinnati for the final time this season. Game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
