Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - January 8, 2016 - Tyler Currier scored his 10th goal of the season and Daniel Gentzler earned an assist in his ECHL debut, but the Jackals were defeated by the Manchester Monarchs 6-1 tonight at First Arena.

The Monarchs struck just 2:17 into the contest as Maxim Kitsyn banged home a rebound following a face-off win and point shot from Michael Boivin. Manchester added to its lead at 8:40 of the frame with a wrist shot from Yann Sauve at the point on the first power-play of the night. Matt Leitner and Austin Block added the assists. Derek Arnold made it 3-0 with 17 seconds left in the first period with a backhand rebound from the slot. Matt MacKenzie and Joe Diamond earned the helpers. However, the Jackals were able to strike only 11 seconds later and get on the board with Tyler Currier's 10th goal of the season. Daniel Gentzler earned the lone assist, which was his first ECHL point in his debut.

The Jackals hoped to build off of the late first period goal with a quick start in the second frame, but Maxim Kitsyn pounced again on a loose puck in front just 2:56 into the period for his second goal of the night. Yann Sauve and Derek Arnold were credited with the assists. Less than two minutes later Michael Boivin jumped forward off a Jackals' face-off win poking the puck past the defenseman and raced down the right wing side firing a snap shot past C.J. Motte for his fourth goal of the season. Following Boivin's goal Motte was replaced in net by Niklas Lundstrom.

Manchester added another quick strike just 1:04 into the third period with Darik Angeli's fifth goal of the season, assisted by Leitner and Block.

C.J. Motte stopped 16 of 21 shots faced in 24:29 of work and was handed the loss. Niklas Lundstrom turned aside 27 of 28 shots faced in 35:20 of relief duty. Doug Carr stopped 35 of 36 shots faced to earn the win.
