Alaska Aces News Release

GWINNETT, GEORGIA - Alaska's Tim Coffman scored twice in the second period, but the Atlanta Gladiators scored twice in the shootout to take a 3-2 victory over the Aces at the Infinite Energy Center Friday night.

Atlanta took a 1-0 first period lead on a goal by Tyler Murovich at 13:55. Murovich got his stick on a Ian Barteaux blast from the low right circle that eluded Aces goaltender Troy Redmann, his 11th goal of the season.

The Gladiators would extend that lead to 2-0 at 14:48 of the first period. Brock Higgs chipped in a close range shot for his 12th goal of the season.

The Aces would push back in the second period as Coffman one-timed a pass from Peter Sivak on a 2 on 1 rush through Atlanta goaltender Matt Ginn at 1:22. Coffman added a second goal, his 11th of the season, at 7:25 on a rebound of a Sivak shot. Mitch Jones also picked up an assist on the play.

Plenty of opportunities for both teams through the second and third periods, but no goal as the teams battled to overtime, the Aces outshooting the Gladiators 4-2 in extra time.

In the shootout, Derek Nesbitt and former Ace Garry Nunn scored on Redmann while Coffman and Sivak were unsuccessful against Ginn.

Redmann finished with 26 saves for Alaska, while Ginn stopped 21 Aces shots.

Alaska and Atlanta will play again Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm Eastern, 10:05am AK at the Infinite Energy Center.

The Aces return home to face the Idaho Steelheads in a 3 game series starting Friday, January 22. For tickets, stop by the Aces ticket office at 15th and Gambell Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, or go online at www.alaskaaces.com.
