January 8, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 23 seasons in the Lowcountry and proud affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that defenseman Joey Leach has been recalled by the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears.
Leach, 23, appeared in 32 games for the Stingrays this season, posting nine points (four goals, five assists) to go along with 47 penalty minutes. Leach served as an alternate captain for South Carolina and held a team-best +18 mark on the season.
This marks Leach's first recall to Hershey this season. Originally a third round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2010, Leach, a Wadena, Saskatchewan native, is in his third professional season after a five-year junior hockey career for the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He has played in 143 ECHL games with Bakersfield, Fort Wayne and South Carolina, registering 36 points. He has also appeared in 16 AHL games with Oklahoma City and Lake Erie, notching one assist.
The Stingrays are on the road this weekend. They visit the Adirondack Thunder for a 7 p.m. puck drop tonight. Fans are encouraged to head to King Street Grille-Northwoods for the Official Watch Party featuring select $3 drafts.
