The Mavericks held a strong command over the first half of the opening period, keeping most of the action in the Indy Fuel end of the ice. Josh Holmstrom got Missouri on the board when he scored in a short-handed situation with the help of Tanner Fritz at 16:23. The Fuel's Alex Lavoie returned the favor by tying the game up 1-1 at 18:07 with the assistance of former Mavericks forward, Garett Bembridge, and Peter Schneider.
Carter Verhaeghe broke the 1-1 tie only 1:55 into the second period with his second goal in two games for the Mavericks. Teammates Kane Lafranchise and Jesse Root assisted on the play.
Then Root added his name to the scoresheet again at 6:13 when he lit the lamp on the power-play for a 3-1 Missouri lead. Verhaeghe and Lafranchise were credited with the helpers on Root's eleventh goal of the season.
The Mavs looked to be skating away with a 3-1 game until Lavoie cut into the home team's lead with his second tally of the night at 12:00 of the final frame aided by Nick Mattson and Sam Jardine. Indy continued to try their hand at another goal, pulling former Mavs net minder, Shane Owen, in favor of an extra attacker in the final minutes of regulation. The empty Fuel net gave Josh Holmstrom the opportunity to seal a 4-2 Mavericks victory, scoring his second goal of the night with forty-six seconds left in the game. Rocco Carzo took the lone-assist on the empty-net goal.
Missouri maintains their perfect home record, now 6-0-0-0, at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena with their tenth straight win of the 2015-16 ECHL season.
