Tulsa Oilers News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP

The Oilers and Thunder collide for the fourth meeting of the season and for the second night in a row after Friday's tilt in Tulsa. In the StoneWolf Casino Cup series, the Oilers are 1-1-0-1 against the Thunder and suffered a 2-1 shootout loss in their only visit to INTRUST Bank Arena on November 11. Each previous contest between the long-time rivals has been a low-scoring affair and each side has scored five goals in the season series.

NOT IN A GIVING MOOD

Last night at the BOK Center, Kevin Carr posted his second shutout of the season and back-stopped the Oilers to a 2-0 victory over the Thunder. The second-year goalie turned aside 24 shots and improved his career record against Wichita to 13-2. Rookie defenseman Justin Mansfield scored his first professional goal in the first period and rookie winger Phil Brewer added an insurance tally in the third period to give the Oilers their first win of the season over the Thunder.

SEEKING MOMENTUM

A win tonight in Wichita would give the Oilers two straight road victories for the first time this season. Tulsa has earned points in three of its last four contests and will begin a stretch of eight consecutive home games on Sunday against Missouri. The Oilers hold a one-point lead over the Thunder for third place in the Central Division standings and trail the second-place Allen Americans by ten points.

CARR CLIMBING

With his second shutout of the season on Friday night, Kevin Carr now ranks fourth in the ECHL with a stellar 1.77 goals against average. The Unionville, Ontario native has allowed only 14 goals in eight appearances this season and has surrendered one goal or fewer in four of those eight games.

ROUND THREE?

In each of the last two meetings in the StoneWolf Casino Cup series, Oilers' forward Mathieu Gagnon has fought Thunder heavyweight Erick Lizon. Last night at the BOK Center, Gagnon and Lizon engaged in a lengthy, spirited bout that delighted the Tulsa crowd.

NEW NAMES

Earlier this week, the Oilers signed defenseman Mathieu Brisebois and goaltender Matt Grogan. Brisebois, 23, appeared in nine games for the Norfolk Admirals this season and one game for the Evansville Icemen before being re-assigned to Tulsa by the Chicago Blachawks of the NHL. A native of Mont St-Hilaire, Quebec, Brisebois has played 42 games in the AHL and spent most of last season with the Rapid City Rush (ECHL).  Grogan arrives in Tulsa after starting the season with the Mississippi Riverkings (SPHL) where he posted a 4-0-0 record to go along with a 2.74 goals against average. The 27-year old played four years of college hockey at the University of Connecticut before turning pro with the Fort Wayne Komets (ECHL) at the end of the 2013-14 season.

OIL DROPS

Defenseman Dennis Brown snapped a five-game assist streak on Friday but is still tied for fifth in assists among all ECHL defensemen...With his goal in last night's win, Phil Brewer is now tied with Emerson Clark for the team lead with five goals...Head Coach Jason Christie needs only three more wins to break the ECHL record for head coaching victories.
