Manchester Monarchs News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - Matt Leitner's fifth goal of the season was the deciding factor in a Manchester Monarchs 4-3 victory over the Norfolk Admirals, Saturday night at Scope Arena.

With the win, the Monarchs (12-7-0-0) remain unbeaten against the Admirals (5-14-0-1) this season.

Norfolk got on the board first when Ben Betker scored his 1st goal of the season at 4:17 of the second period. Betker corralled the puck at the left point and sent a slap shot past Monarchs goaltender, Colin Stevens, for the first goal of the game.

The Monarchs responded with a goal of their own, when Michael Boivin netted his 3rd of the season on the power play. Last night's shootout hero walked in from the left point and ripped a slap shot that beat Admirals goalie, Tyler Beskorowany, at 8:50 of the second.

Matt White put the Monarchs ahead when he scored his 10th goal of the season at 14:51 of the middle frame. White brought the puck out of the right corner, drove to the net and swept the puck around Beskorowany who lost his stick, for the Monarchs 2-1 lead.

Norfolk fought back to even when Nicolas Blanchard scored his 3rd of the season. Blanchard was camped to Steven's right and deflected a shot from the left point up and over the Monarchs goalie at 16:07 of the period.

Zac Larraza scored his 8th goal of the season at 1:22 of the third period to put the Monarchs up 3-2. After a cycle in the left corner, Larazza took a pass from Matt Leitner in the middle of the slot and sent home a wrist shot high over Beskorowany's blocker.

Leitner gave the Monarchs a two-goal lead when he scored his 5th of the season at 16:47. Stefan Legein took the puck down the left boards on a 2-on-1 breakaway and sent a saucer pass to Leitner who finished five-hole on Beskorowany to give the Monarchs a 4-2 lead.

Norfolk fought back with the 3rd goal of the season from Scott Allen with their goalie pulled at 19:07, but the comeback fell short for the second straight night.

The Monarchs return to the Jungle, Friday, Dec. 4 (7:00 p.m.), as they begin a three-game homestand with the Reading Royals. Prior to the game, Marines will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the annual Toys for Tots Drive.
