TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight's matchup is the third of the season between Adirondack and Elmira and the second in as many games for both teams. Adirondack has taken each of the first two meetings this season, including a 2-1 win on Wednesday evening at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The Thunder grinded out a 2-1 victory over the Elmira Jackals on Wednesday evening at in Glens Falls. The Thunder got goals from Greg Wolfe and Louick Marcotte, to compliment a 32-save effort from goaltender Ken Appleby, as they remained perfect this season on home ice with a 4-0 record.
GO SHORTIE: Greg Wolfe scored the first shorthanded goal in Adirondack Thunder history in Wednesday evening's victory, as he capitalized on a fortunate bounce to squeak the puck past Elmira netminder C.J. Motte to open the scoring. The goal was the third shorthanded tally in Wolfe's professional career, with the assist going to defenseman Ryan Culkin.
THE HEARD LOCKER: Forward Mitchell Heard continues to thrive on the Thunder's front line, as he now has points in each of his last five games, a streak that was extended in Wednesday evenings game against Elmira. Heard has taken over the Thunder's scoring lead amongst active players with 12 points (5-7-12) and also leads the team with 40 penalty minutes.
ON THE MARC: Forward Louick Marcotte has carried the Thunder offense so far this season versus Elmira, with his goal on Wednesday giving him three in two games against the Jackals. The Longeueil, PQ native has put together a fine start to his rookie season, with nine points (6-3-9) in 11 games. Marcotte's six goals lead the Thunder roster amongst active players, tied with only Rob Bordson, who is currently with Providence in the AHL.
BLUE LINE GROUP: Adirondack is amongst the ECHL's best in terms of keeping the puck of its own net, as they currently lead the league with just 25 goals allowed. A veteran defensive corps, led by Mathieu Brodeur, Mike Bergin and David Shields, along with rookie netminder Ken Appleby, who ranks in the league's top five in goals against average (1.82) and save percentage (.937) have led the Thunder on the backend.
MAKING MOVES: The Thunder will be down three forwards for tonight's game, after Alexandre Carrier and Greg Wolfe signed PTO's with the Albany Devils of the AHL and Roberts Lipsbergs was traded to the Utah Grizzlies for future considerations. Carrier made an impression in Adirondack with his physical play and tenacious forechecking, in addition to his four points (1-3-4) and +7 rating. Wolfe was one of Adirondack's top scorers, tied for second with 10 points (3-7-10), and played in all special teams situations. Lipsbergs struggled to crack the lineup with the Thunder after battling injuries for much of the season. He was scoreless in two games with Adirondack this season.
