Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (10-5-2-0) defeated the Allen Americans (12-7-0-0) 7-3 Friday night at Maverik Center.

"It was a good crowd, they're always good to us," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "I'm definitely happy with the way we came out. We executed really well, we moved the puck around really well."

The seven goals for Utah was a season-high as was the four-goal margin of victory. Utah's four goals in the first period, as they built a 4-0 lead, was also a team season-high for goals scored in a period.

"We've got a lot of talented players right now in our lineup," said Branham. "What I like about our lineup right now is it's so deep. It's tough to match up against us."

The Grizzlies led 4-1 after one period, 6-2 after 40 minutes and built a 7-2 lead going late into the third period.

Bryan Moore, in his first game back from the Anaheim Ducks AHL affiliate in San Diego, led Utah with five points on two shorthanded goals and three assists. Joining Moore on yesterday's flight back from San Diego was rookie Matt Berry who had one goal and one assist and defenseman Eric Knodel who got Utah's scoring started 2:35 into the first period with his first goal of the season.

"Those guys are elite ECHL players and they show up on the score sheet time and time again," said Branham.

Goaltender Taren Kozun stopped 34 of 37 shots to earn his first professional win.

The Grizzlies went two-for-four on the power-play and Moore became the fourth player in team history to score two shorthanded goals in a game.

T.J. Syner had two assists in the first 7:46 of the game to help the Grizzlies build a 2-0 lead in his first action since getting hurt on opening night in Colorado and missing 15-straight games.

"It was really nice to have Syner back," said Branham. "He's so dynamic and he plays in every single situation. He's so fast, he can play in the middle, he can play either wing. He's such a good player."

Alex Krushelnyski had a three-point night for the second time in two weeks as he tallied one goal and two assists. Charles Sarault, on an NHL contract with Anaheim, also chipped in three points with three assists.

21-year-old rookie Roberts Lipsbergs scored in the first period to make it 3-0 in his Utah debut; a day after being acquired from Adirondack. "He can make plays, he fits in well for what we're trying to do here," said Branham.
