ESTERO - The Kalamazoo Wings used a simple recipe Saturday night; let Ludwig Blomstrand generate the offense and have Joel Martin create a barrier in front of the net. The result was a K-Wings 2-0 victory over the Florida Everblades to close out a season long five-game road swing.

The K-Wings showed the definition of perseverance in the opening period. Outshot 11-2 in the first period and killing off five power-play attempts, the K-Wings still led after first.

Ironically, while not going on a power-play, Kalamazoo's first goal did come from special teams. Intercepting a pass, Joe Sova lobbed the puck to the blade of Justin Taylor, who quickly slid it to Blomstrand (12th) for a breakaway shorthanded marker. The goal occurred on the K-Wings first shot of the game 10:56 into the period.

While the Everblades struggled with the man-advantage, the K-Wings had success. On their first power-play of the night, Blomstrand (2nd) scored on an Eric Kattelus rebound to extend the K-Wings lead to 2-0.

On the season, the K-Wings are 6-0-0-0 when scoring the game's first two goals.

Martin preserved the shutout by making 14 of his 36 saves in the third period.

Kalamazoo went 1-for-3 on the power-play, while Florida went 0-for-8.

The K-Wings will return home on Wednesday, February 18th for a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Gwinnett Gladiators on Wacky Wednesday featuring 10-cent hot dogs.
