DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators (16-27-2-1) conclude their three-game set with the South Carolina Stingrays (22-18-1-6) tonight at The Arena at Gwinnett Center for night one of Pink in the Rink. In last night's game, the Gladiators were shutout by the Stingrays, 3-0, with Adam Morrison making 19 saves for South Carolina. This weekend will be the final home weekend for the team before their season-high eight game road trip through Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, and South Carolina.
Glads Notes:
No Love Lost: Tonight marks the eleventh game between South Carolina and Gwinnett this season. The two teams will play one another 16 times this season, the most against one opponent for both teams. The Stingrays hold the edge in the series, winning seven of the ten played so far.
Pink in the Rink: "Pink in the Rink" is the Gladiators highest-profile annual fundraising effort, netting almost $400,000 to benefit numerous local charities in North Georgia over the past seven years. This season, the Gladiators have teamed up with "The Sport of Giving", the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and Kennesaw State's Zeta Tau Alpha as the primary beneficiaries of the two-game "Pink in the Rink" weekend .
Their Hearts Are On Their Sleeves: The Gladiators will be wearing special "Valentine's/Pink in the Rink" jerseys tonight and tomorrow, their fourth jersey to be worn this season. The special black jerseys feature hearts on the sleeves and hemline, pink and red striping, Gwinnett's alternate Gladiator logo with themed coloring, and a special "Gladiator Heart" shoulder patch. The team will auction off the game-worn jerseys after Sunday's game with proceeds going towards the Gladiators' fundraising efforts this weekend.
Follow the Leader: Casey Pierro-Zabotel currently leads the Eastern Conference in scoring with 53 points in 44 games played. He is second among active ECHL skaters in points, tied with Alaska's Brendan Connolly.
Gladiators Ahoy: Two players currently on the Gladiators roster have been assigned from their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates- James Melindy and Dyson Stevenson - and nine more - Joel Hanley (POR), Dan O'Donoghue (POR), Louis Domingue (POR), Mike Lee (POR), Jordon Southorn (POR) Greg Carey (POR), Bretton Stamler (HFD), Casey Pierro-Zabotel (NOR), and Joe Stejskal (IAW) - have spent time in the AHL this year.
Milestones: Sean Berkstresser is three points away from his 200th professional point ... Casey Pierro-Zabotel is one assist away from his 200th ECHL assist and seven goals from his 100th pro goal ... Geoff Paukovich is one goal away from his 50th as a pro ... Brenden Walker is two games away from his 100th professional match, all coming with Gwinnett ... C.J. Chartrain is six games from his 100th pro game.
