'Blades Denied by Martin & K-Wings on Valentines's Day

ESTERO, FL - Goaltender Joel Martin stopped all 36 shots faced to lead the Kalamazoo Wings to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena Saturday night.

Kalamazoo got on the board first with a shorthanded tally from Ludwig Blomstrand. The Wings blocked a shot and delivered the puck to the blue line to Justin Taylor. Taylor steered a breakaway pass to Blomstrand who beat Florida goaltender Andy Iles on a backhanded shot to give the Wings the 1-0 lead.

Early in the second, the Wings added to their lead on the power play. Eric Kattelus delivered a shot from the high slot that was stopped by Iles. However, the puck bounced to the left side of the crease, and was shoveled into the net on the rebound by Blomstrand. Blomstrand's second of the game gave Kalamazoo a 2-0 advantage.

The story of the night was K-Wings goaltender Joel Martin who was unbeatable on the night. Martin frustrated the "˜Blades shooters throughout the night as he repeatedly stopped every scoring chance that came his way.

In addition, the Kalamazoo penalty kill stymied the Everblades power play in the game, as Florida posted an 0-fior-8 mark with the man advantage in the contest.

Florida continued to press in the third, putting up 14 shots on net, but Martin refused to let one slide by to close out the 2-0 shutout win for Kalamazoo.

Iles takes the loss allowing two goal on 27 shots.

The Everblades continue the homestand next Friday and Saturday against the Orlando Solar Bears at Germain Arena.
