Alaska Aces News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - Troy Redmann turned in a 26 save effort and the Alaska Aces scored two power play goals en route to a 3-2 victory over the Ontario Reign, opening a four-game road trip before an announced crowd of 7,489 at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Friday night.

Redmann, a native of Brea and former goaltender locally for Ontario and the Los Angeles Junior Kings, improved to 6-0-0 while helping preserve the fourth consecutive Aces victory with more than 40 members of his family and friends in attendance. Corbin Baldwin, Colten Hayes and Curt Gogol (game winner) each scored and the Aces kept pace behind Utah, three points out of fourth place in the Pacific Division.

Following two bouts in the opening two minutes between heavyweights Jacob Doty and Mike DiPaolo (Ontario) and Justin Johnson with Jeremy Yablonski, Ontario energized the building on Matt Register's power play goal at 2:17, a shot that snuck past Redmann through traffic from the point.

Baldwin responded with 49 seconds left in the period off a giveaway at the blueline. Baldwin waited for a screen to assemble and he fired a shot under the crossbar on goaltender Daniel Spence.

On the next shift, Jeff May was whistled for holding and the Aces capitalized just 1:08 into the second period. Jacob Doty shuffled a rocket pass from behind the net to the tape of Hayes, who blasted a shot from the left circle past Spence for a 2-1 lead and power play goal. But Ontario answered for a 2-2 tie on a goal credited to Ralfs Freibergs, off a point shot by Nolan Julseth-White that seared through a screen by Norm Ezekiel at 5:01.

Redmann took over, thwarting several good looks at the net including a late breakaway by Ezekiel to keep the game tied, 2-2.

Maxim Kitsyn's holding penalty was crucial in setting up the eventual game winner in the third period. Curt Gogol, hesitating at the left circle, hammered a slap shot past Spence at 2:43 to lift the Aces back into the lead, 3-2 on his seventh goal of the season.

Spence took the loss on 27 saves.
