South Carolina Stingrays News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ken Scuderi and J.B. Bittner each had a goal and an assist to propel the Augusta Lynx over the South Carolina Stingrays 3-2 before 3,545 at James Brown Arena.

The Stingrays loss combined with Charlotte's 4-1 win over Columbia, moves South Carolina into sixth place in the ECHL's South Division, two points behind Augusta and Charlotte. The top five teams in the division advance to the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Stingrays have two games remaining in the regular season, while Augusta has three road games left and Charlotte has five games remaining on its schedule.

"We couldn't get the equalizer," South Carolina coach Jason Fitzsimmons said. "Our playoff hopes are slim but it's still possible. We need some help from other teams and need to take care of business in our last two regular season games."

Augusta (39-27-3, 81 points) carried the play in the first period and opened the score on its 21st shot at the 17:00 mark. Scuderi unloaded a shot from the left point beating goaltender Davis Parley, who set a team record by appearing in his 59th game of the season surpassing the standard set by Kirk Daubenspeck in 2002-03. Scuderi's 5th goal of the season was assisted by Dirk Southern and Ryan Petz.

South Carolina (35-26-9, 79 points) responded just 27 seconds later. Donny Grover let go with a shot from the right circle tucking it underneath the crossbar for his 10th tally of the year getting it by goalie Nathan Marsters. Cam McCaffrey and Josh Anderson garnered helpers.

Lynx busted in on a 2-on-1 break in the second, as Garett Bembridge fed Aaron Slattengren, who deked Parley to net his 20th of the season at the 17:50 mark to give Augusta a 2-1 lead.

In the third, Bittner deposited on a breakaway from Scuderi and Weston Tardy at 10:09 to make it 3-1 for Augusta.

Stingrays' Anderson closed the gap to one with 1:17 left in regulation on the penalty kill, which was South Carolina's league-leading 22nd shorthand tally of the season. Grover collected an assist.

South Carolina finished 0-for-3 on the power play, while Augusta went 0-for-6 with the man advantage. Lynx outshot the Stingrays 41-30.
