TRENTON, NJ (March 31, 2007) - The Trenton Titans announced that center Ivan Khomutov has been re-assigned by New Jersey (NHL) from Lowell (AHL) to Trenton, while the Titans have also signed defenseman Jason Slusher.
Khomutov, 22, has appeared in just two games for Lowell this year, posting a goal and an assist. A third-round draft pick (#93) overall of the New Jersey Devils in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Khomutov spent his first two seasons of pro hockey with the Devils' then-AHL affiliate, the Albany River Rats. There, he compiled 15 goals, 31 assists and 74 penalty minutes in 126 contests. The 6-3, 210-pounder out of Saratov, Russia played one year of junior hockey in 2003-04 with the London Knights (OHL), where he registered 21 points (9g, 12a) and 25 PIM in 40 games.
Slusher, 24, was an invitee to the Titans' training camp this year before signing with the Pee Dee Cyclones (SPHL) for his rookie season. With the Cyclones, he recorded 2 goals and 19 assists for 21 points and 74 penalty minutes over 53 games. A 6-2, 220 lb. native of Bel Air, MD, Slusher skated for three seasons of collegiate hockey atthe Lebanon Valley College. A first team All-American his senior year, Slusher totaled 55 points (17g, 38a) in 76 contests for the Pumas.
In separate transactions, the Titans released defenseman Matt Cohen and forward Tony Zancanaro. Cohen recorded 8 penalty minutes in nine games with Trenton, while Zancanaro notched 3 points (1g, 2a) and 4 PIM in eight matches.
