Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons rallied from an early deficit, but came up short as the Phoenix RaodRunners escaped with a 4-2 win on Saturday in front of 5,627 fans at Save Mart Center.
Phoenix got on the scoreboard first with a power-play goal 10:52 into the opening period. Tyler Redenbach won a face-off to Alex Rouleau at the left point, and Rouleau fed Olivier Latendresse on the back-door for the redirection past Ryan MacDonald.
The RoadRunners extended the lead to 2-0 at 19:19. Todd Jackson skated into the Fresno zone, and moved the puck to Brock Hooton in the right-wing circle who wristed a shot past MacDonald for his 16th goal of the season.
Lance Monych stretched the Phoenix lead to 3-0 6:18 into the second period. Brian Yandle played the puck into the Fresno end, and Scott Stirling, who replaced MacDonald at the start of the period, came out to try and poke the puck free, but his stick and Monych's stick reached the puck at the same time, and it rolled behind Stirling into the Fresno net for Monych's 15th goal of the season.
The Falcons closed the gap to one through two periods with a pair of goals late in the middle stanza. Brian McConnell put Fresno on the board at 14:43, taking a breakout pass from P.O. Beaulieu, skating into the Phoenix zone, and tucking a shot through the five hole of Cody Rudkowsky for his seventh goal of the season.
Fresno pulled within one less than three minutes later at 17:26. Dave Borrelli skated into the Phoenix zone, and from the right-wing circle fed a cross-ice pass to Jason Tejchma who jammed the puck home for his seventh goal in just 13 games.
Rudkowsky helped Phoenix preserve the lead through two periods, stopping 20 Fresno shots as the Falcons notched a 22-5 edge in shots in the middle period.
Monych added his second goal of the night, and the RoadRunners' second on the man advantage, 15:54 into the third period to give Phoenix a 4-2 lead.
Rudkowsky finished the night with 43 saves as Fresno out-shot Phoenix 45-19.
