Florida Everblades News Release
BEAUMONT, TX - The Florida Everblades (40-22-6) suffered their second straight loss to the Texas Wildcatters (40-20-9) in a 4-1 game on Saturday night at Ford Arena in front of a crowd of 3,804. The Wildcatters got things started off quickly scoring twice in the first five minutes to set the early tone. Veteran forward Allan Sirois opened the scoring just 45 seconds into the contest when a big rebound from a wide shot caromed off the end boards to the stick of Sirois who slipped it past Everblades net minder Craig Kowalski. Texas added to their lead at 4:48 when Ben Thomson gathered a bouncing puck and tucked it past Kowalski for the 2-0 lead.
The teams played an even second period that resulted in no goals and Texas carrying their 2-0 lead into the third period where the Everblades peppered the Texas net, firing 15 shots at Matt Yeats. The Everblades finally broke through to trim the lead to one when Ernie Hartlieb scooped up a loose puck at the top of the crease and slipped it past Yeats at 9:37. Brad Zancanaro and Ryan Brindley assisted on Hartlieb's eighth goal of the year. Despite keeping the pressure on, that was as close as Florida would get as Texas added a pair of goals in the final minute to seal the win. Brandin Cote notched his 28th goal of the year, chipping a rebound past Kowalski with 58 seconds remaining and Kevin Baker closed out the scoring with an empty net goal just 25 seconds later.
In net, Kowalski suffered the loss allowing the three goals on 37 shots to see his record fall to 26-13-4, while Yeats collected his 31st win by turning away 41 of 42 Florida shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the game 0-for-4, while the Wildcatters closed out the game 0-for-5.
