Cyclones Qualify For Playoffs In 4-2 Win!

WHEELING, West Virginia - The Cincinnati Cyclones advanced to the 2007 ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs with a 3-1 win at Wheeling Saturday night (March 31). Jean-Michel Daoust had a goal and two assists each in the victory. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 32 shots in picking up his 23rd win of the season.

Wheeling opened the scoring 28 seconds into the game, when defenseman Paul Bissonnette collected his eleventh goal of the season with a wraparound goal. Cincinnati's Sam Ftorek answered the goal at 4:19, with his 19th score of the season. Ftorek picked up a loose puck in the high slot and rifled it past netminder Andy Franck. Jason Deitsch and Jean-Michel Daoust picked up the assists. The Cyclones grabbed the lead, 2-1, when Daoust buried his 29th score of the season at 16:14 on the power play. Rory Rawlyk and Barett Ehgoetz had the assists.

Cincinnati extended its lead to 3-1, when Travis Lisabeth notched his 19th goal of the season at 10:32. Deitsch and Daoust picked up the assists on the goal. The period featured two fights and

In the third period, Ryan Moren picked up his tenth goal of the season at 6:02-to close the gap to 3-2. Daoust buried his 30th goal of the season at 19:46 on the power play to close out the scoring and secure the win-and playoff berth.

The trip to the Kelly Cup marks the fourth time in the history of the Cincinnati Cyclones organization in the ECHL that the club has qualified. The last time the team made it (four years ago) into the playoffs during 2003, the Cyclones advanced to the seventh game of the American Conference finals, before losing to eventual Kelly Cup runner-up Atlantic City.

"This is the first step toward our ultimate goal," Head Coach Chuck Weber said after the game. "We still have an awful lot of work in front of us."

The Cyclones are now 36-27-3-2, second in the North Division three points behind Dayton. Wheeling is 30-32-2-4 on the season, last in the North Division. Wheeling's seven game winning streak came to an end with the loss. Cincinnati continues its four game road trek tomorrow night (Saturday, March 31) with an 8pm game at Wheeling.
