Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
Adam Geragosian was outstanding in goal as the Pensacola Ice Pilots almost saved the best for last.
The Gwinnett Gladiators fired a goal early in the second period to snap a 2-2 tie and hang on to beat Ice Pilots in Duluth Georgia on Saturday night. The loss disappointed a huge crowd of Ice Pilots fans that made their way to Gwinnett for the game. The Ice Pilots played a spirited game and kept the Gwinnett Gladiators on their heels for most of the night including an incredible surge in the third period where they couldn't get through on Dave Caruso. Geragosian was spectacular making some big saves including stopping a breakaway in the third period to keep his team in the game.
Pensacola netted the game's first goal when Rich Meloche's shot was mishandled by Dave Caruso and it was 1-0. The Gwinnett Gladiators would score the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead. But the Ice Pilots rallied back to tie when Jesse Baraniuk scored on a one timer from Rob Rankin and John Hecimovic.
The Gladiators tied the game up late in the opening period to make it 2-2.
The second period was a spirited affair with both teams getting scoring chances. Gwinnett took the lead 3-2 on Jonathan Awe's one timer off the face-off. There was a skirmish in the period involving forwards Rene Gauthier and Rich Meloche as well as two Gladiators. It fired up the Ice Pilots and had them playing well. The Ice Pilots return home after the game for a Sunday evening tilt against the Florida Everblades. It's the first of back-to-back games against the Blue and Gold's state rival. Face-off is 6:05 pm at The Hangar. The first 750 fans through the doors will receive a complete set of Ice Pilots trading cards courtesy of OZONE Pizza. Tickets available at the Pensacola Civic Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations. For further information, including group rates please call 432-PUCK.
