Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - Louis Goulet scored twice and added two assists as the Augusta Lynx downed the Charlotte Checkers 5-2 in front of 3,373 fans at the James Brown Arena Saturday night.

Goulet opened the scoring at 8:04, accepting a cross-ice pass from Mike Erickson and waiting Alex Westlund down to the ice before firing it over the glove side for a 1-0 lead.

Ryan Lang would collect his second of the assist of the night as he threw the puck in front of the Charlotte net during a penalty kill and watching it bounce off Goulet's skate to make it 2-0 at 13:41.

Charlotte narrowed the gap to 2-1 with a second period power play goal from Blake Bellefeuille, but Augusta reclaimed the two-goal margin on Mike Erickson's 23rd goal of the year from Goulet and Ryan Lang at 14:49. The marker was also a historic one for the Lynx, as it is the 2,000th goal in Augusta Lynx history.

Ken Scuderi's wrist shot over the shoulder of Westlund off a Goulet feed at 17:01 rounded out the second period with Augusta leading 4-1.

Just 48 seconds into the final frame the Checkers notched its second power play goal to cut the deficit to 4-2 from Dan Murphy.

Ryan Petz responded for the Lynx at 5:25 on a delayed penalty call, punching home a Garett Bembridge feed for the 5-2 final.

Dave McKee stopped 38 shots for his 29th win of the year while Westlund made 19 saves in the loss for Charlotte.

With the win Augusta has reclaimed the fifth and final playoff spot in the ECHL's South Division, sitting two points ahead of Charlotte with 75 and one point behind the idle South Carolina Stingrays.
