Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (39-20-6) saw Craig Kowalski turn away all 24 shots from the Columbia Inferno (25-30-9) helping them to a 1-0 victory on Friday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 6,330.

A spirited game between South Division rivals saw the only goal of the contest come 70 seconds into the game. Reggie Berg got the 'Blades on the board by batting a rebound from Inferno net minder Todd Ford past him for his 24th goal of the season. Vince Bellissimo and Brad Zancanaro assisted on the goal which was Berg's 150th in his career.

From there the Everblades played strong on the defensive side limiting the Inferno to just 14 shots over the final two periods. Kowalski faced 10 shots in the opening period, then clamped down turning away all eight second period shots and six third period shots to claim his third shutout of the season and raise his record to 25-11-4. Ford meanwhile turned in a solid effort in net for Columbia by stopping 38 of 39 shots, but saw his record drop to 14-10-6 after the tough-luck loss.

On the power play, both teams finished the game 0-for-3, with all three chances for Columbia coming in the first period, and the Everblades failing on their lone first period chance and two second period opportunities. The win improved the Everblades to 6-1-1 vs. Columbia this season and 4-0-0 at Germain Arena.
