Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho - B.J. Crombeen scored the game-tying goal with 2:11 left in regulation and Steve Silverthorn out-dueled a razor-sharp Derek Gustafson in the shootout, allowing Idaho to pull out a 2-1 win in front of 4,525 Friday at Qwest Arena.

For the second straight game against their West Division rivals, the Aces scored in the game's eighth minute, as Kimbi Daniels ended a four-game drought with a tip-in on the power play for his 18th goal of the year, assisted by ex-Steelhead Peter Metcalf at 7:17. The score remained 1-0 even though Alaska was out-shot 20-13 over the first two periods. Gustafson preserved the lead by stopping Idaho's leading scorer, Marty Flichel, on a breakaway late in the middle frame.

The Steelheads mounted a furious charge in the third period, firing 25 shots against only three for the Aces, but needed a two-man advantage late in the game to force overtime. Crombeen re-directed a shot by Darrell Hay past Gustafson, who finished regulation and overtime with a season-high 46 saves. Alaska was out-shot by a count of 47-18, its season-high in shots against and just one off its season-low for shots on goal. Silverthorn stopped all four shootout attempts by the visitors, while Derek Nesbitt and Marty Flichel solved Gustafson in the extra session.
