vs Long Beach Game one of a two-game series

LAST GAME: The Salmon Kings finished a three-game set against Utah with a Sunday afternoon rubber match in front of 4,847 fans at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

Utah Defenseman James Sanford opened the scoring on a Grizzlies powerplay in the first period, and Defenseman Steve Lingren tied the match in the second stanza on a Victoria powerplay. Still in the second, Ryan Wade posted his second shorthanded goal of the season for the Salmon Kings lead.

Victoria padded their lead in the final frame as Matt Kelly earned his second goal of the series with 3:27 remaining, and Milan Gajic tallied his 18th goal of the season in a 5-on-3 Salmon Kings powerplay with a slapshot from the right point in the final minute.

Victoria 4-1

LAST GAME vs LONG BEACH: The Salmon Kings set a club record in nabbing their fourth straight road victory in Long Beach on January 28th. The Ice Dogs jumped to a quick lead with goals from Chris Collins and Defenseman Jeff Mason, but Victoria battled back to tie the game before the close of the opening stanza. Jordan Krestanovich tallied the first Victoria goal and Kiel McLeod added the second during a powerplay.

Victoria nabbed the 3-2 lead in the second frame with a quick top-corner shot from Marc-Andre Bernier, which resulted in Long Beach Netminder Brett Jaeger replacing Mike Brown.

Ryan Wade gave Victoria a two-goal lead in the first shot on Jaeger, but the Ice Dogs crept closer with a marker from Ryan Bennett with under nine minutes left in the middle frame.

Defenseman Phil Cole and Forward Milan Gajic gave Victoria breathing room with goals in the third stanza.

Victoria 6-3
