Goodwill Charity Donation Night as Lynx battle Checkers

March 23, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - Augusta Lynx fans have a chance to help give back to the community tonight on Goodwill Charity Donation Night as the Charlotte Checkers come to town for a 7:35 pm game at the James Brown Arena.

After a dramatic come-from-behind shootout win over the South Carolina Stingrays last night, the Lynx look to continue the emotional momentum in yet another key playoff matchup this evening. The Stingrays, Checkers, and Lynx are all engaged in a three-way battle for the last two playoff spots in the ECHL's South Division.

Garett Bembridge has led the Lynx attack with a goal in each of his last three games, including a pair last night versus the Stingrays. Dave McKee backstopped the Lynx to the victory Thursday night, making 22 saves for his 28th win of the year, a new Lynx team record.

"One thing I've learned about Dave is that the more intense the game, the better he gets," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson. "He proved that last season in college (at Cornell Univserity) and has shown that he can make big saves in pressure situations. Last weekend against Texas, he pretty much put the team on his back and said 'follow me' in that 2-0 win."

Despite not having the third and fourth leading scorers in Shane Hynes and Sean Blanchard in the lineup due to recall, the Lynx managed to find a way to score three times in the third period to tie the game and grab two points in the shootout. It was the first time in 25 games this season the Stingrays have yielded a point when leading after two periods of play.

Charlotte and Augusta enter tonight's action tied with 73 points, while the Checkers have two games-in-hand over the Lynx. Augusta will play South Carolina twice more at home this season, and Charlotte once on the road in its eight remaining contests.

Fans are encouraged to bring items, new or used, to the donation drive tonight at the James Brown Arena. If you've wanted to do some spring cleaning in your closet or elsewhere, help support the CSRA's less fortunate with a donation at tonight's game!

Seats are on sale now through the James Brown Arena Box office at $18, $15, and $11, with discounts available for students, seniors, and military personnel with valid ID. Radio coverage kicks off one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
