LumberKings shutout Burlington
August 31, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release
Michael Schlact (10-7; 4.05 overall) continued his impressive run through the season's final month with his best effort of the year, dealing seven shutout innings, allowing just two base hits and fanning three while inducing a dozen ground ball outs. Both base hits Schlact allowed were slow, infield rollers.
The consistent progress demonstrated by the 6'8" right hander selected in the third round of the 2004 draft out of a Marietta, Georgia high school has been perhaps the most impressive aspect of his first full season. He posted a 5.50 ERA in May, 4.30 in June, 3.57 in July and after yesterday's gem sits at 2.79 through six August starts.
His battery mate, young catcher Alberto Martinez, singled twice in four trips to drive in two runs and second baseman Johnny Washington delivered a two-run double.
Brandon Boggs (.245 / .355 / .430), who like Schlact hails from Marietta, doubled and walked in five trips from the one hole and Casey Benjamin drove in two runs with a single and a walk in five plate appearances.
