August 31, 2005 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels have teamed up with the American Red Cross to help aid those affected by Hurricane Katrina and will make a special presentation to the Red Cross prior to Thursday night's regular season home finale against Quad City. Throughout the first two games of this home stand fans have been donating money to the Red Cross via special red canisters located at each concession stand at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Donations will also be collected during Wednesday night's 7 p.m. game against the Swing of the Quad Cities. Donations can be made with cash or by writing a check made payable to âAmerican Red Cross.' The Kernels will make a matching donation for each and every dollar fans donate and club Vice President Gary Keoppel will then present a representative of the Red Cross with a check for the total amount of relief aid raised prior to Thursday's game.
