Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH -- Wisconsin Timber Rattler pitchers Julio Santiago and Jon Lockwood combined to strikeout sixteen Dayton Dragon batters in a 5-4 Rattler win at Fifth Third Field on Wednesday night. Marshall Hubbard broke a 3-3 tie with a two run homer in the top of the fifth inning and Santiago and Lockwood made the lead stand. Santiago pitched six innings and struck out a season high ten batters without a walk for his third straight win. Lockwood struck out six in three perfect innings for his third save of the season.

Dayton (56-78 overall, 26-38 second half) jumped to an early lead with a first inning solo home run by Adam Rosales off Santiago.

Wisconsin (74-60, 35-29) tied the game in the top of the second. Mike Wilson scored from third on a wild pitch by Dragon starting pitcher James Avery.

Josh Womack tripled with one out in the top of the third and scored the go ahead run for the Rattlers on a single by Brent Johnson.

But, the Dragons retook the lead on a two-run home run to right field by Bobby Mosby in the bottom of the fourth.

Wisconsin's heavy hitters pushed them back out in front in the top of the fifth. Wilson drove in his 82nd run of the season with a single to left that tied the game. Hubbard was the next batter and drilled his sixteenth homer of the season to right and the Rattlers led 5-3.

Rosales launched his second homer of the game with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and the Dragons trailed 5-4. But, that was it for the offense.

Santiago struck out Tonys Gutierrez for the final out of the fifth and retired the side in order -- with his ninth and tenth strikeouts included -- in the bottom of the sixth.

Lockwood entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and retired all nine batters he faced. The Rattler reliever had a pair of strikeouts in the seventh, one in the eighth, and struck out the side in order in the ninth to nail down the win.

The final game of the series is set for Friday night. The Rattlers send Shawn Nottingham (0-0, 4.91ERA) to the mound. Dayton plans on sending Joe Powers (1-0, 6.48ERA) to the hill. Game time is 6:00pm CDT.
