
Knights Shut out Tides 1-0 on Tuesday Night

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights needed just one run in Tuesday's opener to get past the Norfolk Tides.
Charlotte designated hitter Yermín Mercedes scored the team's lone run in the top of the second inning as the Knights shut out the Norfolk Tides by a score of 1-0 from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA on Tuesday. Mercedes, who singled in the inning, scored the game's lone run from third base on an RBI groundout from right fielder Micker Adolfo.
In all, the Knights had six hits on the evening, one more than Norfolk's five. Catcher Zack Collins led the way with two hits and Adolfo had the only RBI of the game.
LHP John Parke (2-2, 4.34) started for the Knights and was sharp over five shutout innings to earn the win. Parke allowed just two hits and one walk over his five masterful innings in Tuesday's opener. He also struck-out three batters. The Knights then received scoreless innings from four relievers. RHP Evan Marshall, on rehab from the Chicago White Sox, tossed the first scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Relievers Will Carter, Nik Turley and Jace Fry all followed with scoreless innings. Fry earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Knights and Tides will play a doubleheader on Wednesday night from Harbor Park starting with game one at 5:05 p.m. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
