Charlotte Knights News Release
(NASHVILLE, TN) - Catcher Nick Ciuffo had two doubles and an RBI, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon from First Horizon Park in Nashville, TN.
RHP Emilio Vargas started for the Knights and allowed two runs on four hits over five innings of work. Vargas, who also struck-out five batters, did not factor in the decision. Charlotte lefty Zach Muckenhirn (1-1, 2.35) was saddled with the loss after he allowed the go-ahead run to score in the bottom of the eighth inning. Nashville catcher Mario Feliciano drove home the go-ahead run with a single to right field. Left fielder Weston Wilson scored what proved to be the winning run of the game.
Ciuffo had a solid day at the plate for the Knights. The Charlotte backstop put the Knights on the scoreboard with an RBI double in the bottom of the second inning to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. He later scored Charlotte's second and final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by second baseman Zach Remillard. Ciuffo finished the day 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run scored and one RBI.
Chicago White Sox RHP Ryan Burr began a Major League Baseball rehab assignment with the Knights on Sunday and pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Burr allowed just one hit and struck-out one batter in his first appearance of the 2022 season. He is currently on Chicago's injured list with a right shoulder strain.
The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game homestand on Tuesday against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins). First pitch of Tuesday's game from Uptown Charlotte is set for 11:05 a.m. The game can also be heard live on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
