INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that they have selected the contract of right- handed pitcher Beau Sulser. He will become the first Indianapolis Indian from the 2022 squad to make his major league debut this season.
Sulser, 27, began the season on Indy's Opening Day roster and is 1-2 with a 2.13 ERA (3er/12.2ip) and 14 strikeouts in three Triple-A starts. In a pair of outings at St. Paul last week, he did not surrender an earned run or walk with 10 strikeouts in 9.0 innings.
The California native spent all of 2021 with the Indians and ranked among Triple-A East leaders with 24 starts (T-1st) and 122.2 innings pitched (5th). In 26 total appearances - including a team-high five quality starts - he went 7-9 with a 5.65 ERA (77er) and 102 strikeouts.
Sulser was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the 10th round (298th overall) of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Dartmouth (Hanover, N.H.) College.
